Laurinda Gomes is 20 years old and lives with her parents. There are 9 people living in the house and both of her parents are elementary school teacher. They are both teachers from the old generation who could get jobs with a high school diploma; this no longer works. However, those who did not pursue higher education are working for minimum wage. Having lived in Angola for a few years, the minimum wage leaves no room for saving, or paying for higher education. It simply covers basic needs. We believe that Laurinda deserves this scholarship as she and her parents have demonstrated a deep desire to work hard and support themselves. As their oldest child, she plans to help her siblings go to university after her.
